Free Crochet Molly Monkey Doll Pattern©

so much fun to pose and play with...the pattern comes with complete
Wonder Monkey© Costume...She can easily be made into
a little boy monkey with a few minor costume changes!
I know it's been a while since I've posted but I've been working
on a special project that has kept me so busy...it's something I've never done before 
though I am making progress and I can't wait to share it
with all of you soon...so keep watching!

Yarns used to make the Monkey:
Warm Brown by Red Heart Super Saver
Buff by Red Heart Super Saver
(The yarns & other materials used for the outfit are below the Monkey portion of pattern)

Hooks used in Pattern to make the Monkey:
D 3.25mm, C 2.75mm

Instructions, yarns and materials for clothes are below the Monkey pattern.

Finished Doll measures 21" tall

Most of this pattern is worked in the round so use a stitch marker.

To make the Head & Body: with Warm Brown Yarn & D Hook
(Shh this is what I look like naked) :-)

Ch2
Row 1. 6sc in the 2nd st from the hook.
Row 2. 2sc in each st around-12sts.
Row 3. 1sc, 2sc in the next st-18sts.
Row 4. 1sc in 2, 2sc in the next st-24sts.
Row 5. 1sc in 3, 2sc in the next st-30sts.
Row 6. 1sc in 4, 2sc in the next st-36sts.
Row 7. 1sc in 5, 2sc in the next st-42sts.
Row 8. 1sc in 6, 2sc in the next st-48sts.
Row 9. 1sc in 48sts
Rows 10-19. repeat row 9
Row 20. 2sc in 6, 1sc in 18, 2sc in 6, 1sc in 18-60sts.

Repeat rows 1-5 of the head & body and FO, continue on to row 34 of the head and body.

Put the safety eyes in the round buff pieces then attach the eyes between the 14th or 15th row of the head. Then sew the buff pieces onto the front of the face.

Row 44. 1sc in 5, 2sc in the next st-42sts.
Row 45. 1sc in 42sts
Rows 46-55. repeat row 45
Row 56. 1sc in 6, 2sc in the next st-48sts.
Row 57. 1sc in 7, 2sc in the next st-54sts.
Row 58. 1sc in 8, 2sc in the next st-60sts.
Row 59. 1sc in 60sts
Rows 60-62. repeat row 59
Row 63. 1sc in 8, dec1sc around-54sts.
Row 64. 1sc in 7, dec1sc around-48sts.

To help support the head, make a neck piece using poly fiber fill, by wrapping yarn around it like in the photo below. This will really make your dolls head so much more sturdy.

Row 68. 1sc in 3, dec1sc around-24sts.
Stop here and make the legs, once the legs are done put a safety eye through the legs and body around the 59th row. Continue on to row 69.
Row 69. 1sc in 2, dec1sc around-18sts.
Row 70. 1sc, dec1sc around-12sts.
Row 71. dec1sc until closed and FO.

To make the 1st Foot: with Buff Yarn & D Hook (make 1)
Ch15
Row 1. 1sc in 13sts, 3sc in the last st, now working on the other side of the ch, 1sc in 12, 2sc in the last st, put a st marker in the last st-30sts.
Row 2. 1sc in 30sts
Rows 3-12. repeat row 2
Row 13. dec1sc 3x, 1sc in 24-27sts.
Row 14. dec1sc, 1sc in 21, dec1sc 2x-24sts.
Row 15. dec1sc 2x, 1sc in 20-22sts.
Row 16. 1sc in 22sts
Row 17. 1sc in 3, ch5, sk 5sts, 1sc in 14-22sts.
Row 18. dec1sc 10x, 1sc in the last st.
Row 19. dec1sc, until closed and FO.
To make the 2nd Foot: with Buff Yarn & D Hook (make 1)
Repeat rows 1-16 for the 1st foot
Row 17. 1sc in 16sts, ch5, sk5, 1sc in the last st.
Row 18. 1sc in 16, 1sc in ch5.
Row 19. dec1sc 10,1sc.
Dec1sc until closed and FO.

To make the Toes: with Buff Yarn & D Hook

The Big Toe: make 2
Ch2
Row 1. 6sc in the 2nd st from the hook.
Row 2. 2sc in each st around.
Row 3. 1sc in 12sts
Stuff
Row 4. dec1sc until closed and FO.

To make the Little Toes: with a C Hook make 8
Ch2
Row 1. 6sc in the 2nd st from the hook.
Row 2. 1sc in 6sts
Row 3. dec1sc until closed and FO.

To make the Legs: attach Warm Brown to ch5 and the 5 skipped sts with a slst & ch1.

Row 1. 1sc in 10sts
Rows 2-15. repeat row 1
Now to make the legs you're going to increase the sts randomly around.
Row 16. add 1sts-11sts
Row 17. 1sc in 11sts
Row 18. add 1st-12sts
Row 19. 1sc in 12sts
Row 20. add 1st-13sts
Row 21. 1sc in 13sts
Stuff leg as go
Row 22. add 1st-14sts

Put safety eye in and connect to the out side of the body following the above instructions. Once the eye piece is secure, stuff lightly around the eye and finish
closing up the leg by dec1sc until closed and FO.



To make the Hands: with Buff Yarn & D Hook (make 2)
Ch11
Row 1. 1sc in 10, working on the other side, 1sc in 10-20sts.
Row 2. 1sc in 20sts
Rows 3-9. repeat row 2
Row 10. 1sc, dec1sc around-1-sts.
Stuff hand
Change to Warm Brown Yarn
Row 11. 1sc in 11sts
Stuff arms as you go
Rows 12-26. repeat row 11
Row 27. 1sc in 1, 2hdc in 4, 1sc in 5sts.
Row 28. 1sc in 1, 1hdc in 8, 1sc in 5sts.
Row 29. 1sc, dec1sc 4x, 1sc in 5sts.
Row 30. 1sc in 10sts
Rows 31-48. repeat row 30
To close up the arms making sure the elbows are in the right direction wk 1sc in
5sts through both sides and FO. Sew arms onto the body.



To make the finger indentations: with needle & thread tightly sew 3 indentations to look like fingers.


To make the Thumbs: with Buff Yarn & C Hook (make 2)
Ch2
Row 1. 5sc in the 2nd st from the hook.
Row 2. 1sc in 5sts
Rows 3-7. repeat row 2
Dec1sc until closed and FO, sew thumb onto the hand.


To make the Muzzle: with Buff Yarn & D Hook

Ch6
Row 1. 1sc in 4, 3sc in the last st, now working on the other side, 1sc in 3, 2sc, place st marker in the last st.
Row 2. 2sc, 1sc in 4, 3sc, 1sc in 5, 3sc in the last st.
Row 3. 1sc in 8, 3sc, 1sc in 8, 3sc in the last st.
Row 4. 1sc in 9, 3sc in 2sts, 1sc in 9, 3sc in 2sts.
Row 5. 1sc in 12, 3sc in 2, 1sc in 15, 2sc in the last st.
Row 6. 1sc in each st around.
Rows 7-9. repeat row 6 and FO at the end of row 9.
Sew the muzzle slightly under the eyes. I sewed the top part on first, then along the sides, stuffed it and then sewed it closed along the bottom.

The nose is 6 bobble sts and sewn onto the muzzle.

To make the Ears: with Warm Brown Yarn & D Hook (make 2)

Ch2Row 1. 6sc in the 2nd st from the hook.
Row 2. 2sc in each st around-12sts.
Row 3. 1sc, 2sc in the next st-18sts.
Row 4. 1sc in 2, 2sc in the next st-24sts.
Row 5. 1sc in 24sts
Rows 6-7. repeat row 5
Row 8. 1sc in 2, dec1sc around-18sts.
Row 9. 1sc, dec1sc around-12sts.
Row 10. dec1sc until closed and FO.
Sew each ear to one side of the head.

To make the Belly Button: with Warm Brown Yarn & C Hook
Ch2
5sc in the 2nd st from the hook and FO.

To make the Tail: with Warm Brown & D Hook
Ch2
Row 1. 4sc in the 2nd st from the hook.
Row 2. 1sc in 4sts
Repeat row 2 until tail measures about 12 to 13" in length and FO.
When I made my outfit I forgot to make a small space for the tail to go through. But once I sewed it on I was able to pull the tail through the stitches.



Yarns used to make the Outfit:
Pretty in Pink by Red Heart Super Saver
Turquoise by Red Heart Super Saver
Yellow by Red Heart Super Saver

Other Materials used to make Outfit:
8 1" Star Buttons
Needle & Thread
Yellow Felt
2 Snaps Size 1
1 1/2" Button
Hot Glue
Velcro

To make the Monkey Outfit: with Pretty in Pink Yarn & G Hook
Ch48 join & ch1
Row 1. 1sc in 48, place st marker in the last st.
Rows 2-4. repeat row 1
Row 5. 1sc in the FLO in 48sts.
Row 6. 1sc in 6, dec1sc, ch1 & turn.
Row 7. 1sc in 42, ch1 & turn.
Rows 8-9. repeat row 7
Row 10. 1sc in 5, dec1sc around-36sts.
Row 11. 1sc in 36sts
Rows 12-18. repeat row 11
Row 19. 1sc in 4, dec1sc around and FO-30sts.
To make the Sleeves:

Row 1. sk 4sts, attach yarn in the next st with a slst and ch6, sk 6sts, wk1sc in the next st, ch1 & turn, wk 1sc, 2sc in the next st, all the way around including ch6 and the skipped sts, place st marker in the last st.
Row 2. 1sc in 18sts
Rows 3-8. repeat row 2
Row 9. 1sc in 13sts, 1slst in the next st and FO.
Repeat on the other side to make the 2nd sleeve.

To finish the top part of the top:
Attach yarn to row 18 with a slst and ch1.
Row 1. 1sc in 30sts, ch3 to make the button hole wk 1slst into the same st as ch3 and FO.

To make the bottom of the Onesie: This is how it will look when finished.
 
Attach yarn to the bottom like in the photo below, with a slst and ch1.

Row 1. wk 1sc in 21sts across, ch1 & turn.
Rows 2-21. repeat row 1
Row 22. dec1sc, 1sc in 17, dec1sc, ch1 & turn.
Row 23. dec1sc, 1sc in 15, dec1sc, ch1 & turn.
Row 24. dec1sc, 1sc in 13, dec1sc and FO.
Sew the snaps on the back side of flap, then sew the other half of the snaps to the
front underneath of the front. Making sure that the snaps line up. 

Cut out a W and sew to the front of the Onesie.


To make the Skirt: with Turquoise Yarn & G Hook Attach yarn to the unworked sts of row 5 (where the arrow is pointing) with a slst to the back of outfit, ch1.

Row 1. 1sc in each st around, join & ch3-48sts.
Row 2. wk 3dc in each st, join & ch3.
Row 3. 1dc in each st around, join & ch3.
Rows 4-6. repeat row 3 and FO.

To make the Belt: with Yellow Yarn & G Hook
Ch48
Row 1. 1sc in 23, 2dc, 1sc in 23, ch1 & turn.
Row 2. 1sc in 22, 1hdc, 1dc in 2, 1hdc, 1sc in 22 and FO.
Sew the belt around the top part of the skirt and onesie.

To make the Cape: with Turquoise Yarn & G Hook


Ch20
Row 1. 1hdc in 18sts, ch2 & turn.
Row 2. repeat row 1
Row 3. 2hdc, 1hdc in 16, 2hdc, ch2 & turn.
Row 4. 1hdc in 20sts, ch2 & turn.
Row 5. 2hdc, 1hdc in 18, 2hdc, ch2 & turn.
Row 6. 1hdc in 22sts, ch2 & turn.
Row 7. 2hdc, 1hdc in 20, 2hdc, ch2 & turn.
Row 8. 1hdc in 24sts, ch2 & turn.
Row 9. 2hdc, 1hdc in 22, 2hdc, ch2 & turn.
Row 10. 1hdc in 26sts, ch2 & turn.
Row 11. 2hdc, 1hdc in 24, 2hdc, ch2 & turn.

With yellow felt cut out a W and sew to the back of the cape.

Cut out 2 small pieces of Velcro (the sticky side) and hot glue them to the cape like in the photo above.

To make the Headband: with Yellow Yarn & G Hook

Ch24
Row 1. 1sc in 11, 2dc, 1sc in 11 and FO.
Glue 2 small pieces of Velcro on the sticky side to each end of the headband. Put the headband on behind the ears.
